"DARK SKIES, HOT PLANET, COOL GAZE"
Our new art film will premiere in Mexico City at the 2025 Media Ecology Association (MEA) annual convention at Universidad Panamericana.
The film was shot inside the Greater Big Bend International Dark Sky Reserve, spanning 15,000 square miles in Far West Texas and Northern Mexico. That’s the the size of Switzerland. The film is 82 minutes.
This is not another boring talking-head documentary. The film is a philosophical road trip, using striking and quirky imagery from the Big Bend region and remote highways to explore the long-term future of a civilization on a planet getting ever hotter. What can we hope for with human consciousness largely dominated by simulacra, the hot gaze of social media, and the façade futurism of billionaires and Tech Bros? For an alternate and hopeful future, the film also presents a new philosophy of technology and aesthetics, born in the dark skies and cool gaze of desert vistas, national parks, and astronomical observatories. Yeah, it is trippy, very trippy.
